Cafaggio: A Legacy of Passion, Tradition, and Excellence

Dating back to 1408, the existence of the Cafaggio winery was first attested by a precious parchment, still conserved in the estate’s archives. Originally known as “Cahago”, meaning “enclosed, cultivated field”, the property was owned by the Benedictine monks of Siena in the late fifteenth century before passing into the hands of various owners, including the famous Niccolini family of Florence.

The Florentine Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova purchased the estate before the end of the modern age, where the farm produced a great variety of food products, including wine and oil. In the nineteenth century, Villa Cafaggio was acquired by the Boddi family.

By the end of the 1860s, the Farkas family purchased the property as a country house. However, by 1967, the estate was in such a state of neglect that the Farkas decided not only to renovate the wine cellars but also to replant the vineyards and olive groves.

In the years that followed, the estate underwent various management changes. From 2005 to 2015, it was managed by the La-Vis Group. Since 2016, it has been owned by ISA S.p.A. (Istituto Atesino di Sviluppo S.p.A.), a financial service holding company based in Trento that offers ideas, investment, and new strategies for development to take advantage of opportunities in highly globalized markets.

Basilica Cafaggio Srl, the company responsible for managing the estate, places an almost maniacal focus on the production process across the entire supply chain. This ensures a further increase in the quality of its wines. The company aims to strengthen its role as a niche producer of Chianti Classico and to develop and improve what already exists.
